# Plainward > Plainward (https://plainward.net) is a web language trainer for beginners built on classic public-domain books. Each course retells a story in simple sentences of the language being learned; in every sentence the learner picks the missing word from three options and gets a short explanation with examples in their own language, with audio. The interface and explanations are in the learner's language (Russian, or Chinese for the Chinese-speaking course). The first 5 sentences of each course are free; after that the learner signs in (email or Google) and each new sentence costs 1 credit. There are no ads; visits are counted with Plausible Analytics without cookies. ## Courses - [English for Russian speakers (A1–A2)](https://plainward.net/?story=lady-with-the-dog): English for Russian-speaking beginners, built on Chekhov's "The Lady with the Dog": pick the missing word in each simple English sentence, get the reason explained in Russian with examples, and listen to it.
